Sharkie Joins Spicer Thoroughbreds

Media Release - Monday January 8
Spicer Thoroughbreds would like to announce that Mick Sharkie will join its team in 2018 as Business Development Manager commencing at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Sharkie has more than ten years of experience with major media organisations as a journalist and presenter and has become increasingly active in the bloodstock industry in recent years as a consultant and trader.

He will oversee new Spicer Thoroughbreds projects and will represent the business on race days and events alongside director Brad Spicer, while maintaining some select consulting and media roles.

"I've been looking to expand the Spicer Thoroughbred team for a while now and Mick is a great fit for our business," said Spicer.

"He's got great passion for the sport and is very forward thinking, best of all Mick has great enthusiasm for horse ownership and innovation. We will be launching some new projects this year and we're excited that Mick is on board to manage them."

Sharkie has previously worked for Fairfax Media, TVN, G1X, and RSN, and currently is a director of content production company The Steam Room.

"Spicer Thoroughbreds is one of the most successful and respected racing brands in this country so I'm obviously thrilled to join the team," said Sharkie.

"I've been working towards deeper involvement in the bloodstock side of racing for a few years now through trading and consultation on international purchases and I am stoked to be able to continue that development with Brad and his team - he is one of the best yearling selectors in this country."

In 2018 Spicer Thoroughbreds will introduce new local and international ownership projects which Sharkie will manage.

"From an owner and investor point of view we hope that these projects offer some innovative experiences. Spicer
Thoroughbreds has always been an industry leader when it comes to customer service and elite level success on track and I will continue to drive that forward."

Sharkie's appointment comes after Spicer Thoroughbreds recent announcement that television presenter and model Nicky Buckley would be the ambassador for its upcoming Ladies In Racing Group.
