Lovelycut Impressive at Sandown

Ridden by Damian Lane for Reece Goodwin, Lovelycut came with a barnstorming finish from second last to defeat the Brazen Beau colt Last Druid by one and a quarter lengths with the Exceed and Excel gelding Cardiologist a neck back in third.

Lovelycut had impressed last start when a heavily backed favourite on the Synthetic at Pakenham on July 1.

"This is massive. We've had two metro winners overall, and both have been tried horses," Goodwin said.

"This is the first filly we bought from the sales. To be here competing against James Harron and Godolphin and running over the top of them is pretty exciting.

"It's always great to have Damian Lane in the saddle. The best part of today's win is that she has done it another way. She was OK away, and the speed was good. Damian didn't panic, came back, found cover, and it was an exciting finish.

"I said we would probably tip her out win, lose or draw and aim at the back of the spring. I will give her some time out, but we might look at a Quezette in eight or nine weeks or give her that extra time."

A $50,000 purchase for Reece Goodwin Racing / Bevan Smith Bloodstock when consigned by her breeder Chris Rentessis to the 2023 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Lovelycut is a sister to three winners headed by the Listed   SCTC Glasshouse Handicap winner King Of Hastings and a half to Red Cut Rock.

Lovelycut is out of the winning Danerich mare Handcut, who hails from the family of the Group 1 Adelaide Cup winner The A Train.

The handsome son of Magic Albert stands at a value fee of $3,850 in  2024.
