In Career Best Form - Terra Mater Captures G3 Tibbie Stakes

Mark Smith - Friday September 20

In the form of her life at age five, Terra Mater parlayed her success in the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes at Wyong when capturing Friday’s $250,000 Group III Reward Hospitality Tibbie Stakes (1400m) at Newcastle.

The best to begin for Nash Rawiller, the daughter of Wandjina, was reined back to take the sit behind Overiding. Set to an all-out drive at the 250m, Terra Mater safely held the challenge of the Press Statement mare Roots by three-quarters of a length, with the Star Turn mare holding on bravely for third ahead of Winx’s half-sister City Of Lights (Deep Impact).

Trained by Jarrod Austin, Terra Mater advances her record to eight wins, six seconds, and a third from 17 starts with earnings of $647,750.

Bred by Bert Vieira , Terra Mater was a $1,750 Inglis Digital weanling purchase for Garry Carden off Widden Stud in 2020.

She is the best of three winners from as many to race for the unraced Bel Esprit mare Before Time, who failed to make her $8,000 reserve at the 2020 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale.

Before Time has not had a live foal in the past three seasons. Last spring, she was among the 22 mares covered by the Dark Angel stallion Dark Acclaim (IRE).

Larneuk Stud’s Group 1 winning Snitzel stallion Wandjina stands for $6,600 this spring.

Wandjina stands at Larneuk Stud, click for more info and a Hypo mating.
