New Approach Mare Blows Them Away in Bow Mistress Stakes

Mark Smith - Friday February 9

The Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas-trained Gogo Grace added to the mainlanders domination of stakes races run at Hobart on Friday when she swept down the centre of the track to turn the $150,000 Group III Carlton Draught Bow Mistress Trophy (1200m) into a walk in the park.

Settled back midfield by Dean Yendell, Gogo Grace came with a barnstorming finish to defeat Tizso Wicked by four and a half lengths with Deja Blue a long-neck back in third.

"She's a mare with a fair bit of ability and was stakes-placed in Adelaide," Macdonald said."

"She does a fair bit wrong but today she got it all right and that's what we've been waiting for.

"She ran very well at Flemington (last start), got on to heels two or three times. She's had the freshen up and has come back well.

McDonald said the Group III Vamos Stakes on the 25th at Launceston would be the next start for Gogo Grace.

A homebred for Harry Perks, Gogo Grace advancer her record to 5 wins, 4 seconds and 1 third from 19 starts with earnings of $248,700.

She is the first live foal out of the stakes-winning Monolith mare Starmon.

Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas shelled out $200,000 at the 2017 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for a Medaglia d'Oro (USA) colt out of Starmon while the year before at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Jadeskye Racing / G Ryan outlaid $320,000 for a colt bred the same way.

From the famous Eight Carat family, Starmon did not have a live foal for two seasons before being covered by Shooting To Win last spring.

Gogo Grace becomes the 36th stakes-winner for the former Darley shuttler New Approach (IRE).
