Rising Two Year Olds for Knight Exemplar

Media Release - Monday July 24
Reigning champion sire Exceed and Excel has a growing reputation as a sire of sires with Southern Highlands based Knight Exemplar set to add to the success with his first foals now about to turn two.

Standing at Brisbane Meadows in NSW for Fiona Mylan, blue-blooded Knight Exemplar has the distinction of being the most expensive colt by his sire Exceed and Excel sold at the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Knight ExemplarSnapped up by renowned yearling judge James Harron for $450,000, Knight Exemplar showed immediate talent in finishing a close and unlucky second on debut as a two year-old to subsequent Group II winner Ninth Legion.

As a spring three year-old he finished second beaten a neck to subsequent Group I winner Rebel Dane when resuming from a spell and then ran second beaten a short head to Jolie Bay in the Group II ATC Roman Consul Stakes.

Dispatched to Melbourne for the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes, Knight Exemplar struck interference at the start, but recovered to run fourth beaten a length and a half to top class filly Nechita, Jolie Bay and eventual Group I VRC Newmarket Handicap winner Shamexpress.

Knight Exemplar went on to win twice over 1100 metres and at his best was a fast sprinter with a potent turn of foot.

He matched strides with some of the best of his generation and defeated numerous subsequent Group I winners during his career in Lankan Rupee, Your Song, Snitzerland, Manawanui, Hay List, Sizzling, Fiveandahalfstar and Fat Al, recording an excellent Timeform rating of 115.

His good looks and ability reflect his pedigree as Knight Exemplar is bred on a similar cross to champion sire Fastnet Rock, who is by Exceed and Excel's sire Danehill from a Group III winning daughter of outstanding shuttle sire Royal Academy (USA) as is Knight Exemplar.

Knight Exemplar is the best offspring to date for former classy performer Charmview, who won the Group III Tatts Winter Stakes, a race now upgraded to Group I status as the Tattersalls Tiara.

From a prolific Black Type family, Charmview has a pedigree that features Group I stars such as Just Now and Shiva's Revenge.

Physically, Knight Exemplar combines the best attributes of the Danehill and Royal Academy bloodlines, showing the strength and muscle bulk of the former coupled with the refinement and quality of the latter.

His first small crops of foals have greatly impressed their breeders.

"Knight Exemplar's stock have been placed with top trainers and the feedback has been very positive, Trainers such as Bjorn Baker, Joseph & Jones racing, Twinstar racing," said Fiona Mylan.

"We have some top class mares booked in this season including stakes winning and stakes producing mares, so he will get an even better opportunity going forward.

"He represents a very affordable way to get into the Exceed and Excel bloodline and is really improving on the mares, producing correct and speedy types."

Knight Exemplar stands at a fee of $3,300 and for more information contact:
