Konasana Wins G3 Belle of the Turf for Woppitt Bloodstock

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday December 31

Foaled and raised at Coolmore for Debbie Kepitis and her family, the Woppitt Bloodstock bred Dundeel mare Konasana was a Group winner last season at three and showed her class at Wyong on New Year’s Eve when winning the $300,000 Group III Belle of the Turf Stakes (1625m) under the top weight of 59kg.

Ridden by Regan Bayliss, the Chris Waller trained Konasana had to take the field up to tearaway leader Redbreast, who took some catching, but Konasana prevailed to wo win by half a length taking her overall record to five wins from 16 starts with prizemoney topping $574,000.

“The win was full of merit as she had top weight and had to take the field up to the leader,” said stable representative Zane Jones.

“It was a really good win and she can go on from that.”

Konasana is the best of three winners from well bred import Posing (USA), who Debbie Kepitis bought at the 2018 Inglis Chairman’s Sale from the Coolmore draft for $500,000 when in foal to Frankel with the resulting foal being minor winner Phosphene.

By Medicean, Posing is a granddaughter of Group III winning blue hen Magnificient Style, the dam of Group I winners Nathaniel, Great Heavens and Playful Act, and five more Group and Listed winners.

Posing was onsold this year through the Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale where she made $210,000 when snapped up by Mitchell Bloodstock for Yarraman Park and she produced a colt this year by St Mark’s Basilica (Fr).

Posing  is now in foal to champion sire I Am Invincible.
