Gold Coast $3Million Sunlight Plate Meeting Switched To Sunshine Coast at 11th Hour.

Breednet - Friday January 3

Saturday’s rich Magic Millions meeting, which includes the $3million Sunlight Plate, at the Gold Coast has been sensationally moved to the Sunshine Coast after a suspected poisoning event made the Gold Coast track unsuitable for racing.

Golden Slipper winner Lady Of Camelot is favourite for the Sunlight Plate.

Gold Coast Turf Club officials discovered a portion of the track had suffered chemical damage on Friday afternoon and a series of course proper gallops involving senior jockeys was conducted, with concerns raised that the meeting would be unable to proceed.

The 10-race meeting has subsequently been moved to the Sunshine Coast track and a Magic Millions “live site” will be conducted at the Gold Coast including “all activations, functions and hospitality”

As well as the inaugural running of the $3million Sunlight Plate, a slot race, there are two vital two year-old races which will serve as a final chance for runners to force their way into the Magic Millions 2YO Classic next Saturday.

Racing Queensland have declared that meeting will proceed as scheduled with the affected grass to be replaced in time.
