One to Watch – Bendigo

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday March 13
As a three-quarter sister-in-blood to dual Group I winner Shoals it’s no real surprise this filly made $1million when offered at Magic Millions in 2016.

Lady Cartier as a yearlingTrained by Brent Stanley, three year-old Fastnet Rock filly Lady Cartier might not be quite of the racing standard of other star members of her illustrious family, but she is now a winner.

She travelled sweetly for Luke Currie up in third place and forged clear to win the 1400 metre maiden at Bendigo on Tuesday by three-quarters of a length at her fifth start.

Lady Cartier is the first winner for her dam Ten Carat Rock, a superbly bred unraced sister to Group III winner Sliding Cube, the dam of Group II winning sire Rubick.

Raced by a syndicate headed by Steve Gillard that also includes her breeders Matthew Sandblom and Henry Field, Lady Cartier was foaled and raised at Newgate Farm and offered in their draft at Magic Millions where she fetched $1million to the bid of Cloud 9 Thoroughbreds / CB Bloodstock.

Her dam Ten Carat Rock was bought by Newgate Farm for $750,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions Teeley Assets Dispersal and is a sibling to Group I stars Redoute’s Choice, Manhattan Rain and Platinum Scissors, not to mention The Broken Shore, who is the dam of this season’s dual Group I winner Shoals.

Newgate Farm will offer the current yearling from Ten Carat Rock, a colt by I Am Invincible, at the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale as Lot 398.

Ten Carat Rock has a colt to follow by Deep Field and was covered last spring by Newgate Farm’s young gun Flying Artie.
