Star Stratosphere Filly Wins Listed Gold Sovereign Stakes

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday February 26

The purple and white stars colours of Star Thoroughbreds have had a hot run in Tasmania in recent weeks and featured again on Wednesday at Launceston when brilliant two year-old filly Sanniya made it two wins in as many starts when taking out the $150,000 Listed Gold Sovereign Stakes (1200m).

The Barry Campbell trained Sanniya was ridden by Craig Newitt and trounced her rivals, leading for home and dashing away to win by three lengths over the favourite Crack the Shutters (Alpine Eagle) with Zany Girl (Needs Further) in third to make it an all Tassie bred trifecta.

A $67,500 Magic Millions Tasmania purchase for Star Thoroughbreds/ Randwick Bloodstock from Grenville Stud, Sanniya has won both of her starts earning is $144,570 and is the best of three winners from Lady Writer, an unraced half-sister by Written Tycoon to stakes-placed Emily’s Girl from stakes-winner Wavishing.
