Sixth SW The Autumn Sun - Snow In May Wins Listed Canberra Guineas

Craig Tompson - Sunday March 9

The Autumn Sun’s Group One placed daughter Snow In May got the first stakes win on the board at Canberra on Sunday when taking the Listed Canberra Guineas (1400m).

The three-year-old had finished second to Autumn Glow in the Group II Tea Rose Stakes and third behind Lady Shenandoah in the Group I Flight Stakes in her spring campaign and started a short priced favourite on Sunday off the back of those formlines.

Settling back in the field, Tyler Schiller weaved between runners and the John O'Shea / Tom Charlton trained filly quickened nicely to seize the lead and held on well enough to beat French Ruler (Nicconi) by half a length with Shangri La Spring (Castelvecchio) third.

“It was probably a touch weaker grade than what she’s been in, against Lady Shenandoah and those. She’s been matching it well,” said Schiller.

uo;She executed everything really well. Got a gap and we were lucky that she’s very brave.

“I had to expose her too soon when I got the gap. If I didn’t take I feel like it would have disappeared before I got there.

“She was a touch soft late but I also think she’s better being held up for another 100m.”

The win takes her record to three wins, one second, and a third from six starts with earnings of $283,400.

Bred by Woodpark Stud, Snow In May was a $150,000 purchase for John O'Shea Racing / Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA) from Attunga Stud at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

She’s the first foal for Siyouni mare See You Soon who was Group II placed twice as a juvenile in the Reisling Stakes and Percy Sykes Stakes.

See You Soon was sent to France in 2023 but has a two-year-old filly, also by The Autumn Sun which made $200,000 at Inglis Easter to Peter Moody from Willow Park last year.

Snow In May is the sixth stakes winner for The Autumn Sun, all of them fillies.
