For people that work in the world of racing, breeding and bloodstock, we see it more as a way of life rather than a job and if you have the passion to commit completely to the cause then the FBAA are offering an amazing opportunity for the right people to hone their skills and broaden their horizons.
FBAA Vice-President and well known bloodstock agent Jim Clarke has been instrumental in creating the mentorship which kicked off for the first time last year with around 40 applications received and three candidates chosen to participate, but this year just two will be selected.
Successful mentees will be closely involved with various FBAA members and will have face-to-face, online, and telephone meetings, where mentors and mentees will engage in regular discussions to exchange knowledge, guidance, and feedback. They will also have the opportunity to shadow FBAA agents at sales events, observing and assisting in different aspects of the selection, buying, and selling process.
FBAA President Craig Rounsefell of Boomer Bloodstock and Clarke will go through all applications and interview the leading contenders to choose the top two applicants.
This is not a ‘taste and try’ type program for beginners looking to get into the industry, but a golden opportunity for people already here and looking to expand their knowledge and learn from some of the best bloodstock brains in the business.
Knowledge in this industry tends to be passed from person to person and the opportunity to have access to that collective shared horse experience through an accredited group of bloodstock agents from all over the country is gold for a hard worker with ambition- is that you?
The Dates You Need to Know
The mentorship program will take place during the Magic Millions National Sale and the Inglis Great Southern Sale and conclude before the commencement of the breeding season. This timeline will allow for optimal commitment from all parties involved.
- Applications close on Friday March 28, 2025.
- Successful applicants will be notified by Monday 14 April 2025.
- The Bloodstock Mentorship Program spans a duration of six weeks, commencing on Monday 19 May, 2025, and concludes Friday 27 June, 2025.
Who are they Looking For ?
The Board are looking for applicants with;
- Two years of practical hands-on horsemanship experience at stud farms and/or racing stables.
- Aspirations to pursue a career in the bloodstock industry and a commitment to expanding knowledge and expertise within the field of bloodstock.
- Ability and appetite to conduct research, complete written tasks, work safely around horses and follow instructions.
- Proficiency with computer software including Microsoft Office and industry specific software databases.
- All applicants must also be willing to participate in interviews either online or in-person as well as commit to making themselves available for key dates/hours during the six-week program.
