Tara Madgwick - Wednesday May 14

A homebred for Go Bloodstock, well bred I Am Invincible gelding Maori Chief has a spring in his step at present and made it back-to-back wins at Randwick when scoring on Wednesday.

A last start winner of a lucrative $100,000 Super Maiden on ANZAC Day, the Chris Waller trained Maori Chief started favourite in the Benchmark 68 event over 1300m and led all the way for Nash Rawiller.

He travelled smoothly in front and fought on well to win by a long neck and has the overall record of two wins and three placings from seven starts with prizemoney of $129,000

“He probably did it the hard way as he's not a natural leader, but I think Nash just took luck out of the equation,” said Chris Waller.

“Nash said that before the race that he showed us a glimpse of what he's promised last start, and let's hope he does it again and so he has.

“He’ll probably step up to 1400 as that would be probably logical and we can try and pick up some Saturday prizemoney.”

Raised at Newgate Farm for Go Bloodstock, Maori Chief is a half-brother to Group II winner Red Resistance and is the third winner from three to race for brilliantly fast Group II winning Lonhro mare Heatherly. She was bought by Go Bloodstock for $1.6million at the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Heatherly has a yearling colt by Snitzel, a weanling filly by Exceed and Excel and was covered last year by Extreme Choice.
