Stakes Double for Not A Single Doubt

Mark Smith - Sunday April 15

Arrowfield Stud's Not A Single Doubt had an interstate stakes double on Saturday and they came at opposite sides of the distance and starting price spectrum.

Lindsay Park's well-supported Fundamentalist came from the tail of the field with a barnstorming finish to land Saturday's Listed Dequetteville Stakes (1050m) for two-year-olds at Morphettville.

Ridden by Harry Coffey, Fundamentalist defeated the favourite Music Bay (Choisir) by a length with Al Naifa (Redoute's Choice) a neck back in third.

Fundamentalist was making her third start. She was second at Bendigo over 1100 metres when on debut back on December 12. Sent for a spell she made a winning return to the track when breaking her maiden at Mornington on April 1.

The daughter of Not A Single Doubt was a two-time veteran of the sales ring as a yearling.

After failing to make her $125,000 reserve at the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, she returned to the same arena a few months later in the Holbrook Stud draft at the National Yearling Sale where she was purchased by Aquis Farm/Blue Sky Bloodstock for $135,000.

She is the third foal and first winner for the Keep The Faith mare Centafaith who is a half-sister to six winners including the stakes-placed Centagon.

A daughter of the stakes-winning mare Centaleigh (Centaine), Centafaith was sold at the 2017 Inglis Easter Broodmare sale for just $15,000 when carrying a colt by Star Witness. She was covered by Divine Prophet last spring.

Not A Single Doubt's second stakes-winner on the day came when the 3yo filly Special Alert pulled off a $61 shock in the Group III WA Oaks (2400m) at Ascot.

Settled back worst than midfield early, Chris Parnham committed to an all-out drive on Special Alert over 600 metres from home and rounded the turn in second place. She safely held the challenge of Like A Butterfly (Blackfriars), who came from last, by half a length with American Joy (Americain) a short-neck back in third.

A homebred for Bob and Sandra Peters, Special Alert credited the dominant owners a 9th win in the race, as well as making it four in a row for trainers Grant and two in a row for Alana Williams and a second consecutive success for Chris Parnham.

Special Alert had just a maiden win at Ascot to her name and had been comprehensively outpointed when taking on similar fields in the Natasha Stakes and Ascot 1000 Guineas at her previous two starts.

She is one of three winners from as many to race out of the talented racemare Truly Special (Jeune). The winner of three of her four starts, Truly Special is a sister to the multiple stakes-placed winner Jeune's Reign out of the Listed Morphettville Guineas winner Reigning Belle.

Truly Special has been a regular visitor to Dundeel over the past four years. She has an unraced 2yo colt named Truly Great, a yearling colt and a weanling colt before being covered by the 6-time Group 1 winning son of High Chaparral last spring.

Not A Single Doubt's stakes double takes his number of black-type winners to 55.
