First Stakes Success for Invincible Sprinter

Tara Madgwick - Saturday June 14

I Am Invincible added a new stakes-winner to his tally at Eagle Farm on Saturday when the Gooree Stud bred gelding Compelling Truth landed the $!60,000 Listed BRC Hinkler Handicap (1200m).

Bred by Gooree Stud and retained to race in partnership after passing in at Inglis Easter in 2021 shy of a $350,000 reserve, Compelling Truth had a couple of runs for Annabel Archibald before returning to Mudgee to join the stable of local trainer Mack Griffith and has never looked back.

Compelling Truth has worked through his grades in the country and had a successful campaign in Brisbane this year before winning the $200,000 Wagga Town Plate last month.

He bounced back from an out of character unplaced effort in a Listed race at Scone last start, returning to his usual front running tactics under Bailey Wheeler to score a half length win over the favourite Need Some Luck.

Compelling Truth has the overall record of 11 wins from 24 starts with prizemoney topping $540,000.

Mack Griffith was full of praise for the ride by Bailey Wheeler, who has now won four races on Compelling Truth.

Compelling Truth is the first winner for Gooree Stud’s Group I ATC Flight Stakes winner Speak Fondly, who has been based at Newgate in recent times as part of the joint venture between the two farms.

Newgate sold an Extreme Choice filly from Speak Fondly this year for $800,000 to Michael Freedman Racing/Michael Wallace/Emirates Park and she has another filly to follow also by Extreme Choice.

Compelling Truth is the 118th stakes-winner for Yarraman Park’s champion sire I Am Invincible and is his 15th in Australia this season.
