G1 Tiara Next for Flying Zoustar Mare Floozie

Tara Madgwick - Saturday June 14

Bred and raced initially by Dorrington Farm’s Robert Crabtree, Zoustar mare Floozie changed hands last year and runs now for Yarraman Park, who sent her to Queensland to be trained by Tony Gollan and that decision is reaping impressive rewards.

The speedy daughter of Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Catchy has struck a rich vein of form in her new environment landing the $300,000 Group II BRC Dane Ripper Stakes (1300m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Floozie won her first two starts for Gollan at Eagle Farm in April and May before taking out the Listed Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast and has now put herself in the picture for the $700,000 Group I BRC Tatts Tiara (1400m) on June 28

Ridden in all of her Queensland wins by Angela Jones, the pair have formed a formidable association and Floozie went to a new level again when beating a quality field to win this assignment by half a length over Sydney raiders Tashi and Firestorm.

"She is just brilliant. She is a jockey's dream. You can just put her where you want her. She has won on a heavy track this prep and now a good track,” said Angela Jones.

"Really, you couldn't ask any more of her. Tony has done a splendid job with her since move to Queensland and she has really gone from strength to strength.

"Just incredible to string four together at a tough time of the carnival. Super effort.”

Floozie has the overall record of six wins and four placings from 14 starts with prizemoney topping $470,000 with this Group victory enhancing her value as a broodmare for the future vindicating the decision of James Mitchell to purchase the mare from Dorrington Farm.

"We had a conversation earlier in the week about the draw and it was James’s (Mitchell) idea as well to wait for this race,” said Tony Gollan.

"We got rewarded with a good barrier today. She leapt well and Ang had her in a good spot after 200-metres. She's a really good mare. Going through her grades so well.

"When she won the benchmark 70 here a few runs ago, we said she'd take part in this carnival and that is exactly what she is doing.

"Onwards to the Tiara (G1) in a fortnight. This mare will give it a hell of a shake. Mares like this in good form, I wouldn't swap her for anything in two weeks.

"Very heavy ground last time at the Gold Coast and back on a Good 3 today. We're thrilled to have a horse like this in our camp."

Floozie is the best of two winners from Catchy, who was sold at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale this year for $800,000 to Glenvale Stud and is in foal to Capitalist.

Floozie is bred on a very successful nick between champion sires Zoustar and Fastnet Rock which runs at 13.5% SW to runner.

Footnote: Floozie is not the only Zoustar mare that is doing amazing things in Yarraman Park ownership with the Northern Hemisphere bred Mgheera set to run at Royal Ascot on Tuesday in the Group I King’s Stand Stakes.

She has won her past two starts in Group races and is co-owned by Lord Lloyd Webber of Watership Downs Stud.
