Tassort Filly Too Classy at Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday June 25

Stakes-placed two starts back in the Listed Woodlands Stud Stakes at Scone, talented 2YO Tassort filly Wollzeile proved too classy at Randwick on Wednesday.

Trained by Kris Lees and ridden by Benjamin Osmond, Wollzeile had race experience and a fitness edge over many of her rivals in the 1100m juvenile contest and it showed when it counted.

She settled back in the field and let down with a lethal turn of foot to charge home and win by a couple of lengths taking her overall record to two wins and a second from five starts with earnings topping $100,000.

“I thought she was good first up from a spell at Scone. She ran really good that day and last time (fourth at Randwick) out she didn't have a lot of luck in the early stages and got posted, so I still thought her run was credible,” said stable representative Danny Greer.

“I thought she was quite dominant today, especially the way she really put them away late.”

Wollzeile was a $180,000 Magic Millions purchase.

A $180,000 Magic millions purchase from Emirates Park for Bahen Bloodstock/Kris Lees Racing, Wollzeile runs for a syndicate of stable clients including the Throsby family in whose colours she runs.

Wollzeile was bred and sold by Emirates and is the second winner from Figlmuller, an unraced half-sister by Snitzel to Group winners Santos and Melagrana.

Emirates sold an All Too Hard yearling colt from Figlmuller at Magic Millions this year for $130,000 and sold the mare herself through Inglis Digital in Feburary this year for $5,000.

Wollzeile is one of 31 winners this season for Tassort that also include his Group winning fillies Manaal and Amena.

Tassort stands at a fee of $38,000 at Newgate Farm.
