One to Watch – Newcastle

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday July 15

The O’Shea /Charlton stable have had a lot of success this season and pivotal to that have been the Kiwi breds in the stable highlighted by G1 winning 3YO’s Linebacker and Maison Louis and the dynamic duo unleashed a promising 2YO debut winner on Tuesday with the NZ suffix.

Savabeel filly Samarelle was taking on older rivals in the 1200m maiden and there was also the considerable hurdle of a hot favourite in three year-old Zoustar filly The Stars from the Chris Waller stable.

Samarelle took a while to gain clear passage, but when she did Andrew Adkins was able to ask her the big question and she had the answer… powering past the favourite to win by three-quarters of a length.

A $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Trelawney Stud draft for John O'Shea Racing / James Bester Bloodstock / Hurworth Bloodstock, Samarelle runs for a diverse group of owners that include Frank and Christine Cook in whose colours she runs along with Queensland based Black Soil Bloodstock and others.

Samarelle was a $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase.

Samarelle is aa three-quarter sister-in-blood to Group III placed Savvan being the first winner from stakes-placed Pins mare Smashing, a daughter of Group II winner Ruud Van Slaats from the family of Group I winner Ruud Awakening.

The Savabeel x Pins nick has been well exposed and has had phenomenal success with the two Waikato Stud based sires producing 117 winners from 151 runners at 77.5% winner to runner.

There have been 19 stakes-winners bred this way at 12.5% SW to runner and they include five G1 winners headed by superstars I Wish I Win and Probabeel.
