Tara Madgwick - Friday July 25

Spring was in the air at the Warwick Farm trials with some of the big banger older stars in action and some exciting rising three year-olds that include a filly that has potential superstar written all over her.

Wootton Bassett (GB) filly Agarwood has raced twice for two impressive wins in May on soft and heavy ground and was having her first hit out since then.

The Waterhouse / Bott trained filly led for Tim Clark and dashed away to win by five lengths.

She’s a half-sister to Group III winner Lilac, but might be even better than her, so could well be an up and comer to shake up the established fillies division through the Princess Series.

Team Hawkes know a bit about the Ole Kirk’s and sent around Billund in this heat to take the win after his previous trial when third to Skyglider, who came out and won at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Billund is well stamped by his sire and even has the same little snip on his nose. He is the second foal of well bred metro winning I Am Invincible mare Ducale, a sister to Group III winner Nettuno.

Quickest of the 2YO heats was won by the Waterhouse Bott trained Justify (USA) filly Love Story, who is now two for two at the trials and the runner-up Hay Street has chased her home for second twice now. Hay Street ran well in his only two starts in the autumn including a fourth in the G3 Kindergarten Stakes to North England.

Also keep an eye on The Playwright, G3 winner last prep and having her second trial here.

Love Story is a homebred for Coolmore and is from the 2013 NZB Filly of the Year Fix (NZ), a multiple Group winner by Wootton Bassett’s sire Iffraaj that was bought by Tom Magnier for $1.25million at the 2015 MM National Broodmare Sale.

Fix was sent to stud in Ireland and produced three winners by Galileo including Group placed Know Thyself before returning to Australia in foal to Frankel and the result of that mating is three year-old gelding Viktor, who is also now a winner.

Fix has a yearling filly by Home Affairs and produced a colt by Justify last year before unfortunately missing to Shinzo.

The Ciaron Maher trained Hello Youmzain (FR) colt Stormland showed loads of promise in his first prep with  debut win at Randwick before a crack at stakes class and while that was not successful, he does look to have come back better again.

Additional winners were: Johnny (Farnan) and a pair of Capitalist youngsters that have both been gelded while spelling Banknote Hustler and Outer Banks.
