Sliding Doors Moment Delivers Feel Good Winner at Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Saturday August 2

Two fillies were born at Yulong in 2021 sired by Alabama Express from imported North American daughters of Street Cry, one of them is triple Group I winner Treasurethe Moment and the other is the feel good winner of the day at Rosehill on Saturday.

Four year-old Alabama Express mare Sunshine Law was having her first start for new trainer Denim Wynen in the Benchmark 78 event over 1400m with Anna Roper to ride.

Previously with Annabel and Ron Archibald, Sunshine Law was retained by Yulong after passing in as yearling and had shown considerable promise.

She racked up five second placings before breaking her maiden at Canberra in February over a mile and then won her next start in a Benchmark 64 event at Hawkesbury over 1800.

Yulong have a vast number of fillies and mares and obviously have no desire to keep them all so she was offered through Inglis Digital in May where she was purchased by a good client of Denim Wynen’s in Steve Morris for $85,000.

Sunshine Law provided a dream result for her new connections when surging to the line to win by half a length.

It was her third win from 10 starts and the first prize cheque of $82,500 pretty much paid for her in one fell swoop.

It was the first metro winner for 29 year-old Denim Wynen, who trains a small team of six at Wyong and does all the work herself having learned her craft from fellow Wyong trainer Kristen Buchanan.

"I am so stoked," said an elated Wynen.

"Coming into today, I hate being too confident with people but in myself I knew I had quite a good horse coming here.

"The trackwork rider, after the first gallop she had on her, said she thinks she is quite a serious horse so for her to say that, I thought I have a nice horse."

Sunshine Law has a quality pedigree that says she is only going to get better and better.

"I still can't believe it's true," she said. "They [owners] actually rang me the day before and said they were looking at a couple of tried horses online.

"They've been a big support to my stable over the last six months. They've bought some weanlings and they wanted to get to the races sooner, so they decided to go to the tried sales and picked up two nice horses from Yulong.

"I think we're going to have some fun with her."

Sunshine Law is the best of three winners from three foals to race from Next Meeting (USA), an unraced half-sister by Street Cry to Group II Royal Ascot Queen Mary Stakes winner Raffle Prize from Group III winner Summer Fete.

Yulong still own Next Meeting and they sold a full sister to Sunshine Law at Inglis Premier in 2024 for $250,000 to Matthew C Smith Racing / Randwick Bloodstock Agency. Named Outplay, the three year-old is yet to race or trial.

Next Meeting is due to foal to another of the Yulong sires in Diatonic (Jpn).
