Commemorative Retired to Stud

Tara Madgwick - Monday August 25

Watching the progress of Godolphin horses as they start stepping our for their new trainers has been interesting to say the least and will get more so this weekend when we see Tom Kitten go around in the Group I MRC Memsie Stakes at Caulfield, but one horse we won’t be seeing again is Commemorative.

A towering daughter of I Am Invincible, Commemorative was in the Racing NSW stewards report from last Saturday with her new trainer Chris Waller reporting she had bled from both nostrils after trackwork last week and would be retired.

A Group III winner with four wins and five placings from 14 starts with $644,000 and change in prizemoney, she closed out her career with a third in the Group I SAJC Robert Sangster Stakes last season.

The best of four winners from Group placed Street Cry (IRE) mare Memorial, Commemorative comes from a great family for Godolphin being a grand-daughter of Group I winner Mnemosyne with the family also producing Group I winners Impending and Lyre.

It’s going to be interesting to see which of the star studded Darley stallions is given the opportunity with Commemorative this spring!
