Juvenile Trial Watch – Caulfield

Tara Madgwick - Thursday October 2

Three barrier trials at Caulfield on Thursday morning produced heat winners for first season sires Wild Ruler and Profiteer with the quickest winner being Free Flying, the half-sister by Snitzel to brilliant Group winning mare Learning to Fly.

Trained by the Lindsay Park team, Free Flying showed all the speed and precocity that have made her female family one of the most commercial in the country. The fleet footed bay skipped clear to win the 800m heat by a length.

Free Flying was a $750,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Coolmore and runs for a partnership that includes her breeders and Yulong in whose colours she runs.

Free Flying was a $750,000 Inglis Easter purchase.

She is the fourth living foal from Group III winner Ennis Hill, who has a yearling filly by Justify (USA) that is a full sister to $1.7million earning G2 winner Learning to Fly.

Wild Ruler filly Face the Wild gave a good account of herself for Tony and Calvin McEvoy, dominating her heat to win by nearly two lengths over Sword of State filly Torture with blueblood Home Affairs filly La Gitana in third place.

La Gitana is from star producer Hips Don’t Lie, who is the grand-dam of the previous trial winner Free Flying.

Face the Wild was a $150,000 Magic Millions purchase from Telemon Thoroughbreds for First Light Racing Pty Ltd/McEvoy Mitchell Racing/Belmont Bloodstock Agency and was a successful pinhook having been sourced from the  Alma Vale/Kitchwin Hills Partnership, draft at the Inglis Weanling Sale for $55,000.

Profiteer was a brilliant juvenile in the Price Kent stable and they produced a heat winner for the speedy son of Capitalist in Commit.

He put the bob in on the line for Damian Lane to score a head win over Yes Yes Yes colt Senza Nome.

A $90,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Lime Country Thoroughbreds draft for Mick Price Racing, Commit is the first foal from Lot’s Wife, a winning half-sister by I Am Invincible to Comrade Rosa, who is by Profiteer’s sire Capitalist.
