Tom Magnier has been notable for his purchase of elite race fillies and broodmares in recent years to enhance the stellar Coolmore broodmare band and two of his $3million plus mare purchases have produced stunning fillies this spring.
The second highest priced offering at the 2024 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale at $3.5million was the blue-blood Zoustar mare Platinum Jubilee, a Group III winning half-sister to Golden Slipper winner Lady of Camelot and also to multiple Group III winner Queen of the Ball.
Sent to champion sire I Am Invincible (sire of Queen of the Ball) in her first season at stud, Platinum Jubilee produced this beautiful bay filly at Coolmore on September 11.
Queen of the Ball, Platinum Jubilee and Lady of Camelot are the first three foals from Go Bloodstock’s blue hen Miss Debutante, a stakes-winning daughter of Fastnet Rock, who has also foaled this spring to Zoustar producing a sister to Platinum Jubilee.
Queen of the Ball was retained to race by Go Bloodstock and she too has foaled for the first time this spring producing a colt by Extreme Choice, so this family is very much a work in progress.
Miss Debutante has a two year-old filly by I Am Invincible that has also been retained and named Lone Piper with Chris Waller to train.
Another big ticket purchase for Coolmore from the 2023 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale was established producer Piping Hot, who was secured for $3million in foal to I Am Invincible.
The dam of dual Group I winner Coolangatta produced a filly from that mating and then a colt by Home Affairs and has foaled this spring delivering this lovely filly by Wootton Bassett (GB) on September 9.
The only mares that sold for more money at the 2023 Magic Millions National Sale were Forbidden Love ($4.1million), Sunshine in Paris ($3.9million) and Snapdancer ($3.2million).
Sunshine in Paris was only recently retired from racing, while Forbidden Love and Snapdancer both went to Yulong.
Forbidden Love had a filly by Alabama Express last spring and is due to foal to him again, while Snapdancer had a filly last year by Diatonic (Jpn) and has foaled this spring producing a filly by I Am Invincible.
