Tenth SW for Rich Enuff- Oaks Day Stakes Win for Stokke

Tara Madgwick - Thursday November 6

One of Victoria’s best value sires, Woodside Park based Rich Enuff closed out Oaks Day at Flemington win a new stakes-winner when his tenacious daughter Stokke repelled some serious challengers to win the Listed VRC Century Stakes (1000m).

Trained by Patrick Ryan and ridden by Damian Lane, Stokke is a speedy customer that came into this Black Type assignment with two wins at 1000m from her past three starts.

Unplaced last start when trying Listed class over 1100m at Caulfield, she appreciated a drop back to her pet trip and fought like a caged lion to the finish to win by a long head taking her overall record to six wins from 13 starts with prizemoney topping $273,000.

Patrick Ryan had  faith in his mare believing the straight track would be perfect.

"She's always struggled going around corners, so we couldn't wait to get her up the straight. She's got a beautiful galloping action, but often rushes it around the bend and gets on the wrong leg," Ryan said.

"So we were quietly confident that she'd excel up the straight, but you never know when you've got horses like Rey Magnerio and those sort of proper group quality horses she's got to take a proper step to beat them.”

Retained to race by her breeders, Stokke is the best of four winners from four foals to race from winning Lonhro mare Springalon, a grand-daughter of stakes-placed At Talaqu (USA) mare Broaching.

Springalon has no yearling, but was covered by Jaquinot last spring.

Stokke is the tenth stakes-winner for Written Tycoon’s speedy son Rich Enuff, who stands at a fee of $13,200 and runs at 70% winners to runners!
