One to Watch – Ballarat

Tara Madgwick - Thursday November 20

A five length debut winner for Farnan was always going to be an easy choice as One to Watch on Thursday at Ballarat.

Trained by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, Faraway Dream was the top pick for punters and won as a short priced favourite should.

Faraway Dream led for home under Linda Meech and quickly opened up a gap to cruise home and win as she pleased in a brisk 57.59 seconds.

“It felt impressive as she was a little bit sticky away, but I gave her a little squeeze and she found the front easy and to her credit she comes straight back under you which makes it so much easier for them and for us if they aren’t pulling,” said Linda Meech.

“She won really well.”

A $75,000 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale purchase for Go Racing from the Riverstone Lodge draft, Faraway Dream was bred by Ballylinch Stud and is the second winner for Unusual Dream (IRE), an unraced half-sister to Group winners US Law and Frankuus.

Third dam of Faraway Dream is Group I winner Pharoah’s Delight, the grand-dam of Group I Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Red Rocks, so it’s a high class European female family with a mix of speed and stamina.

Unusual Dream has no yearling for the sales next year, but has foaled this spring producing a filly by Exceedance.

Faraway Dream is the tenth winner this season for Farnan, who has 24 entries for Magic Millions 2026 and 20 for Inglis Classic.
