First Win for $1million Jet

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday December 17

He was bought for $1million at Magic Millions with stallion potential in mind, but Zoustar three year-old Jet found the winner’s circle for the first time at Warwick Farm on Wednesday as a gelding.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, the handsome chestnut son of Zoustar was second and fourth on heavy tracks in May this year before returning with a first up fourth at Canterbury last month behind promising filly Caffe Florian.

He franked her form when leading for home under Tim Clark before giving a great kick to hold off Group placed filly Snitzel Miss to win the $100,000 super maiden over 1300m by a head.

All of the jockeys at Warwick Farm today are wearing black armbands in recognition of the terrorist attack at Bondi Beach that cost 15 innocent Australians their lives on Sunday evening.

“I just want to say, we’re all wearing the black armbands today and on behalf of all the jockeys we offer our condolences to the families of the victims,” said Clark.

“He rode a hot speed that night at Canterbury when the first couple of leaders won, so he drew out and went forward and there was a lot of speed and he peaked late, so up to 1300m was always going to suit him. He was able to dictate in his own way and gave a good kick.”

Jet was a $1million Magic Millions yearling purchase.

Adrian Bott was well pleased to get a win on the board with Jet.

“He's always shown us so much potential and ability at home and unfortunately his race record today doesn't reflect that, but I think today was a good indication of the ability as he got the right conditions,” said Adrian Bott.

“A nice firm track is what he's needed and he didn’t get it in that first preparation and just getting out slightly in trip today was a big positive as well.

“Hopefully he will take confidence off that, because it was a tough win, he was there to be beaten and I thought he might have been at the furlong there, but he really dug deep and kept finding, and that's always a very encouraging sign.

“We'll just try and take him through his grades over the summer to take advantage of the conditions.”

Purchased by James Harron Bloodstock for $1million at Magic Millions from the Segenhoe Stud draft, Jet is the first foal of stakes-winning Foxwedge mare Villami, a daughter of Group III winner Galapagos Girl from the family of Group I winners Laisserfaire, Personal and Lone Rock.

Segenhoe sold a Snitzel colt from Villami at Magic Millions this year for $850,000 and she has a yearling filly by Anamoe.

Villami foaled again this spring producing this bay filly by Zoustar.
