Juvenile Trial Watch - Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday December 30

There were three heats for juveniles at the Randwick trials on Tuesday morning and while the Ciaron Maher trained Magic Millions contender Unit Five was a scratching there were still some interesting winners including the half-brother to Tempted and a million dollar filly by Home Affairs.

She's a beauty! Lady Moscato sold for $1,050,000 at Magic Millions.

It was our second look at flashy chestnut Home Affairs filly Lady Moscato and the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained youngster ran out an easy winner with Rachel King in the saddle and is now two for two at the trials.

She clocked markedly quicker time than the other 740m heat winner and appears as though she might be well placed in the $500,000 Magic Millions Debut (1000m) at the Gold Coast on January 17, a race the stable has won previously in 2024 with Too Darn Lizzie.

A $1,050,000 Magic Millions purchase from Coolmore for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Racing/Kestrel Thoroughbreds, Lady Moscato runs for a partnership that includes John Stewart and she carries his Resolute Racing colours.

She is the third foal of Group II winning multiple G1 placed Champagne Cuddles, a daughter of Group I winner Sky Cuddle.

The other 740m heat was won by the Anthony and Sam Freedman trained Street Boss (USA) colt High Alert, who ambled home between horses to win narrowly over speedy Stay Inside colt Eviction Notice, who led them up in the G3 Breeders Plate before fading to run seventh.

A homebred for Godolphin, High Alert is the first foal from Suricate, a winning Exceed and Excel daughter of Group III winner Antelucan, so he is bred on the super successful Street Boss x Exceed and Excel nick that runs at 16% SW to runner. The nick is very much in vogue at present given both glamour Godolphin 3YOs Tentyris and Tempted are bred this way.

Godolphin on-sold Suricate in 2024, but we shouldn’t read too much into that as they also sold the dam of Group I ATC Golden Rose winner Beiwacht before he stepped out.

The 1050m heat for the babies was won by another Godolphin colt from the Anthony and Sam Freedman stable in Zambales. A half-brother by Pinatubo (IRE) to Tempted, he’s a big powerful fellow and was asked to do a bit more at his second trial after going around for a casual fourth earlier this month.

He is the fifth foal from Group II winning Exceed and Excel mare Calliope, who has had three foals to race all winners highlighted by $4.5million earner Tempted, who has placed in a Golden Slipper and an Everest, along with Group II winner Kallos.
