First Winner for G1 Mare Toffee Tongue

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 8

A full sister to Hong Kong Horse of the Year and triple G1 winner Werther, Toffee Tongue had plenty of ability too, winning the 2020 SAJC Schweppes Oaks and her first foal scored a debut win at Sale on Thursday.

King’s Legacy gelding Heironaut is prepared by Anthony and Sam Freedman, who selected a 1400m maiden for his first start and punters were on board with that thinking sending him out as favoruite.

He led for Theodore Nugent and relished the task going on to win by nearly two lengths.

A $350,000 Magic Millions purchase from Bhima Thoroughbreds for Anthony Freedman Racing Pty Ltd/Suman Hedge Bloodstock, Heironaut runs for a syndicate that includes his breeder Jonathan Munz, who raced his dam Toffee Tongue, a $500,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase back in 2018.

By the much missed sire Tavistock, Toffee Tongue only won the one G1 races, but was placed in three more, running second in the Australian Oaks, VRC Turnbull Stakes and BRC Doomben Cup, so was a high-class stayer.

Bhima Thoroughbreds sold a Snitzel colt from Toffee Tongue at Magic Millions last year to David Ellis (BAFNZ)/Te Akau Racing  for $625,000 and he has been sent back to New Zealand and she has a yearling filly by Maurice (Jpn).

Heironaut is the 18th Australian winner this season for King’s Legacy putting him equal with Farnan and Bivouac as leading second crop sire by winners.
