David Ellis Strikes Early at Magic Millions

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday January 13

David Ellis of Te Akau Racing has a great track record purchasing from Magic Millions having secured Group I winning Snitzel 2YO’s Return to Conquer and Sword of State from past foray’s to the Gold Coast and he struck early on Tuesday securing a Snitzel filly for $500,000.

Bred and consigned by Baramul Stud, the Snitzel filly from Yesterjoy was offered as Lot 1 and  got the sale off to a flyer.

$500,000 Snitzel frilly from Yesterjoy.

A three-quarter sister to Group III winner The Elanora, she is from well bred More Than Ready (USA) mare Yesterjoy, a three-quarter sister-in-blood to champion mare More Joyous and a daughter four time Group I winner Tuesday Joy.

“She’s a cracker, one of the best fillies that I’ve seen for a long time at a yearling sale. An absolute cracker,” said David Ellis.

“I was probably lucky that she was Lot 1 because the sale doesn’t normally hit its peak util later in the day, so I was very happy.”

The filly has the conformation to match her impressive pedigree with third dam Group I winner Joie Denise producing an impressive dynasty of stakes-winners.

“She’s very athletic, a good strong filly, very correct, lovely shoulder. Just a top-class filly,” Ellis added.

Yesterjoy produced a filly by Wootton Bassett (GB) for Baramul Stud last year and was then covered by Zoustar.
