$1.5million for Full Brother to Beadman

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday January 14

Flashy chestnut colt Beadman is already a Group winner and has shown glimpses of G1 ability in his brief six start career to date and his full brother was a showstopper at Magic Millions on Wednesday when knocked down to Tom Magnier at $1.5million.

Consigned by Arrowfield, the colt is the fifth foal of stakes-winning Iffraaj mare Iffranesia (Fr) and he was always going to be popular given his startling resemblance to his older brother Beadman, who was bought from this sale in 2024 for $900,000 by China Horse Club/Newgate/Go Bloodstock/Trilogy.

The winning bid was placed by Tom Magnier, who has enjoyed success with Snitzel colts and now has three on the roster at Coolmore in Golden Slipper winner Shinzo, G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Switzerland and Champion 2YO Colt Best of Bordeaux, whose first yearlings are on offer at the Gold Coast.

He confirmed the colt will be trained by Chris Waller.

“There’s a great group of people in our colts fund and Chris will train him. They all loved the horse, he’s one of the best colts on the ground,” said Tom Magnier.

“We couldn’t be happier with the type, we think he’s a mature type and everybody on the team really like him, so fingers crossed.”

John Messara of Arrowfield Stud revealed he was a tough colt to part with.

“He was a hard one to sell because I don’t think we’ve produced many horses as good as that in the past,” said Messara.

“He’s a full brother to Beadman and it’ll be a long time before we breed a horse as nice as that. Congratulations to the Coolmore team. They’ve bought a beautiful horse today.

“He’s been a standout horse since he was born. He was one of those horses who walked around the paddock six or 12 months ago and you’d go ‘wow’. He had that factor.

“He was always going to be one of the top lots of the sale. Delighted he’s going to a good home.”

Iffranesia produced a colt last spring by Dundeel and was then covered by The Autumn Sun.
