Coolmore Sell $1.5million Snitzel Colt

Tara Madgwick - Friday January 16

Tom Magnier has invested heavily in elite racemares in recent years to add to the Coolmore broodmare band and one of them was Group II winner Vangelic, whose first foal was the top seller in Friday’s final Book 1 session at Magic Millions.

$1.5million Snitzel colt from Vangelic.

Consigned by Coolmore, the handsome bay colt has a pedigree that features champion New Zealand sires Pins and Zabeel through his female line, but the thing that jumps out of the page is his neat double cross of both Danehill and Snippets, suggesting early speed.

The colt was knocked down to Waller Racing/Mulcaster Bloodstock for $1.5million and Guy Mulcaster could certainly see that speed coming through.

“He looked really sharp and he did really well through the prep. He looks an early runner and he moves beautifully,” he said.

“I think what we paid for him is pretty well on the mark. It is a hell of a lot of money but that’s what they seem to cost and when you get a good colt that can go to stud, they look cheap.”

By Golden Slipper winner Vancouver, Vangelic won nearly $1.5million with G1 placings to go with her victory in the Group II ATC Golden Pendant.

Vangleic had a turn around the Gold Coast sale ring in 2023 and made the same money as her son.

She was bought by Tom Magnier for $1.5million from the 2023 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale and was sent to Kentucky last year for a covering to Justify after missing in 2024.
