Arrowfield Announce Dubawi G1 Winner for 2026

Media Release - Thursday January 29

Arrowfield Stud is delighted to announce that Juddmonte’s Group 1-winning miler Lead Artist (Dubawi – Obligate by Frankel) will join the Stud’s 2026 stallion roster under a shuttle arrangement.

Lead Artist (GB) will shuttle to Arrowfield in 2026.

Arrowfield’s Chairman John Messara says, “Lead Artist reminds me of Danehill, also bred and raced by Juddmonte. His third dam is the greatest mare of the modern era, both his sire and broodmare sire are prepotent and, significantly, he is from a stallion-producing family.

“Add his high-class race performance, perfect size – a tick over 16 hands – and his handsome physique, and he is a compelling addition to the Arrowfield roster. And of course, we’ll be supporting him strongly with broodmares of our own.”

Juddmonte’s Chief Executive Douglas Erskine Crum says, “Arrowfield’s success with shuttling stallions along with a proven track record for producing Champion Sires such as Danehill, Redoute’s Choice and Snitzel will provide Lead Artist with the perfect platform to start his Southern Hemisphere career.

“Australian breeders should expect a strong, well-balanced horse with a wonderful outlook, physically very difficult to fault with a good easy action. In terms of pedigree, this regally bred Group 1-winning miler comes from the family of outstanding Blue Hen mare Hasili, whose descendants are responsible for a staggering 59 Group 1 performances.

“Lead Artist possesses all the credentials to continue the significant influence of the Dubawi line in Australia.”

Trained by John & Thady Gosden, Lead Artist raced exclusively in stakes company after posting his first win by almost 5 lengths over a mile as a Spring 3YO at York.

He then won the Goodwood Thoroughbred S. G3, where he bounced smartly from the gate, set a strong pace in front and extended smoothly to score in decisive style.

Lead Artist’s 3YO campaign concluded in the Autumn with his second Group win, in the nine-furlong Newmarket Darley S. G3.

He returned in 2025 with one goal, to add a Group 1 mile victory to his CV and he accomplished that mission in April with a stirring fightback to claim a strong renewal of the Lockinge S. G1 at Newbury. Three Guineas winners, Rosallion, Notable Speech and Fallen Angel finished behind him.

Notable other winners of the Lockinge Stakes include Champion & leading sires Kris, Cape Cross, Night Of Thunder and Lead Artist’s damsire Frankel.

With a peak Timeform rating of 124, Lead Artist has retired to stand at Banstead Manor Stud where he will shortly serve his first Northern Hemisphere book of mares.

John Gosden described Lead Artist at various times as a horse “with so much natural speed” and “a great demeanour” who “holds his condition extremely well” and excels on “summer fast ground.” These are all important qualities for Australian breeders.

A member of one of Juddmonte’s most famous families, Lead Artist’s pedigree comes from the loftiest of top drawers. His sire Dubawi (316 SW) and damsire Frankel (171 SW) are the world’s best – and most expensive – stallions right now.

Dubawi is also exerting a significant influence through his Group 1-siring sons, including Too Darn Hot and Night Of Thunder (both also top-class milers), and Australia’s current leading Second Season Sire Ghaiyyath.

Lead Artist’s Group 2-winning dam Obligate is a grand-daughter of Hasili, dam of five Group 1 winners (four of them by Danehill including Group 1 sires Champs Elysees & Cacique), as well as Danehill’s best European sire son Dansili (154 SW inc. 24 Group 1 winners).

Lead Artist’s 2026 Australian fee will be announced after the Inglis Easter Sale.
