$260,000 Sword of State Colt an Early Classic Highlight

Tara Madgwick - Sunday February 8

Fresh from topping the Karaka Book 1 Yearling Sale with a colt from Las Brisas (GB) that sold for $1.1million, Cambridge Stud based Sword of State was also in demand at Inglis Classic where his only colt to be offered at this sale sold for $260,000 on Sunday.

$260,000 Sword of State colt from Florencenightingale.

Consigned by Windsor Park Stud, the colt from Florencenightingale sold to Ciaron Maher Bloodstock / Kurrinda Bloodstock and is the first foal of his dam, who comes from a family that has had great success in Australia to produce Group winners such as Leebaz, Polish Knight, Zebrowski, Euro angel and Mr Mozart.

Ciaron Maher was also the co-purchaser of the $1.1million Sword of State colt in New Zealand, so the champion trainer obviously has a growing opinion of this promising young sire.

Sword of State has made a fine impression in Australia with his first juveniles including the stakes-winner Torture and exciting colt Warwoven, who won his  first two starts and was favourite for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic before being withdrawn on the eve of the race.
