Kiwi Bred Ghaiyyath Colt Sells for $625,000

Group I Kiwi vendors Wentwood Grange came to Inglis Classic with a select draft of four including two youngsters from the same female family that were both offered on Tuesday and the first, an Anamoe filly from Valley Girl made $200,000, while the second was a colt by Ghaiyyath (IRE) that made $625,000.

The Anamoe filly is from Group I winner Valley Girl and was purchased by Liam Howley Racing, while the Ghaiyyath colt is from Berg En Dal, a winning half-sister to Group III winner Leigh Valley, the dam of Valley Girl.

The 2020 European Horse of the Year, Ghaiyyath has been a revelation this season in Australia with his first crop of three year-olds racing up a storm highlighted by stakes-winners Different Gravy, Freedom Flame, Yum and of course G1 Victoria Derby winner Observer.

Observer resumed from a spell to win the Group II MRC Autumn Stakes (1400m) last Saturday in great style and the colt in the ring today was not dissimilar in appearance.

He attracted keen bidding and was knocked down to McEvoy Racing / Belmont Bloodstock, the same combination that won the Caulfield and Melbourne Cup last spring with Half Yours.

The family crops again next month at Inglis Premier where Yulong will offer Lot 701, a filly by Grunt from Savagal, a winning Savabeel daughter of Valley Girl.
