Fourth Millionaire for the Remarkable Parfore

Mark Smith - Saturday September 1

Any breeder would be over the moon to have a mare that produced one horse that could earn over a million dollars so what about one that produced four millionaires and a $670,000 earner?.

That is the remarkable achievement of NZ Broodmare Of The Year Parfore with the latest coming when Joe Pride brought his evergreen sprinter Ball Of Muscle south for Saturday's Group III Moniek & Susanne Sambor Heath Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield.

The son of Dubawi (IRE) put on an exhibition of sustained speed to put a tiny dent in the dominance of Darren Weir stable.

It was the fourth stakes win for the 8yo gelding and Pride admitted it had special significance because he had enjoyed so much success with the family.

"It's the end of a bit of an error for these horses, obviously Terravista and Tiger Tees his two brothers, this is the last one left now of that Parfore family.

"He's been a good honest horse for a long time and it's good to see him break through

"I reckon he's the quickest horse in Australia I'm not saying he is the best. Over the first 400 metres, nothing can keep up with him if he wants to go.

"When I get him right and get his feet right, you could see that today, he's so comfortable, he tucks his head over and Glyn rides him particularly well."

The win advances the record of Ball Of Muscle to 10 wins, 8 seconds and 6 thirds from 34 starts with earnings of $1,013,075.

A brother to Group 1 Galaxy Stakes winner Tiger Tees and a half-brother to Group 1 Darley Classic winner Terravista, Singapore Horse Of The Year Super Easy and multiple Listed stakes-winner Our Lukas, Ball Of Muscle is the eighth foal of celebrated broodmare Parfore.

Purchased by Mike and Christine Ryan for $30,000 at a New Zealand broodmare sale, Parfore was honoured as the 2014-15 NZ Broodmare of the Year.

The daughter of Gold Brose died aged 18 at Segenhoe Stud in 2016.
