First Season Hopefuls This Weekend

Breednet - Thursday October 4
Early season two-year-old racing spreads it's wings around Australia on Saturday with 13 first season sires represented and hopeful.

Grand Scholar will represent Wandjina in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes at Flemington on Saturday. The most interesting is at Flemington where the only two-year-old stakes race of the day is set to take place with the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes and three freshman horses have runners, all well enough placed in a market which suggests an open race.

Wandjina has Grand Scholar, a $7 chance from the Tony McEvoy stable, Verrazano has the John McArdle trained Mockery, a $9 chance and Brazen Beau has the Godolphin entrant Mercury, a $14 chance in the early markets.

In Brisbane, Doomben has a colts and a fillies division with Rubick and Better Than Ready represented in the colts and four stallions represented in the fillies race.

Rubick colt Ready to Rumble is the most favoured in terms of price although both races contain short priced favourites.

In Western Australia, Safeguard has three runners entered at Belmont including Marcee A Lady, which has trialled strongly and has the Simon Miller/William Pike combination and Miss West Coast, which has also trialled nicely.

On the New Zealand South Island, Sacred Falls, Dissident and Charm Spirit have runners at Riccarton.
