Smart Melody Dies of Colic

One of the finds of the spring carnival, exciting Kris Lees trainer Smart Missile filly Smart Melody has died of colic.

Smart Melody is sadly no longer with usThe three year-old filly reeled off a string of impressive wins in the spring with her lone defeat in the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas when she failed to see out 1600 metres and finished midfield as favourite.

"She was back in pre-training at Gooree for about a week," Kriss Lees told Racenet.

"She was showing signs of colic so they sent her to Scone Vet Clinic.

"They operated on her but unfortunately she's had some complications and she's no longer with us."

The three-year-old only had six starts, winning five, and was regarded as one of Australia's very best three year-old fillies.
