All Star Mile Aim for Amphitrite

Tara Madgwick - Saturday February 16
Top class Sebring filly Amphitrite was the find of the 2018 Melbourne Spring Carnival rising from a maiden win in September right through to capturing the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas and she showed at Flemington on Saturday that she was ready to pick up right where she left off.

Amphitrite - Grant CourtneyPreviously trained by Darren Weir, she was having her first start for new trainers David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig in the Group III VRC The Vanity over 1400 metres.

Ridden by regular partner Craig Williams, Amphitrite settled off the pace and powered to the line to win by a length over fast finishing Verry Ellegant, who also looks set for a good autumn campaign.

"She was well managed by the previous trainer and they took all the right steps with her," said Craig Williams.

"Now you see the finished product. She showed real strength and versatility."

David Hayes was delighted with the performance and will loot to target the $5million All Star Mile on March 16.

"She couldn't have been more impressive," he said.

"I've only had her for 11 days, but she arrived in great order and now we'll look towards the All Star Mile."

A $50,000 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale purchase from the Goldin Farms draft for Flying Start Syndicate/Darren Weir Racing, Amphitrite has the impressive record of five wins and two seconds from 10 starts with prizemoney of $567,405.

She is the third winner from three to race from Ocean Dream, a Redoute's Choice half-sister to Group I winner Marble Halls. The family has also produced Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Sleek Chassis. Amphitrite was bred by Goldin Farms and her dam Ocean Dream has been to their stallion Akeed Mofeed (GB) in subsequent seasons and is in foal to him again.

Goldin Farms will offer the yearling half-brother by Akeed Mofeed (GB) to Amphitrite at the 2019 Adelaide Magic Millions as Lot 82.
