Mongolian Khan Pleases Windsor Park

With the dust now settled on the 2019 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sales series, a real highlight for Windsor Park at Karaka were the sale results produced by exciting freshman sire Mongolian Khan.

Mongolian KhanTwice Champion Horse Of The Year and the only horse to win the Australian Derby, New Zealand Derby and Caulfield Cup, Mongolian Khan made a great impact with his first crop yearlings. 'Type' was at a premium at Karaka, playing into the hands of Mongolian Khan's impressive progeny who were exceptionally well received both internationally and domestically, this fact being confirmed with his top priced yearling selling to Australia's leading trainer Chris Waller and agent Guy Mulcaster.

Mongolian Khan fashioned an impressive Book 1 sale average of $107,777 (10.7 times his service fee) at Karaka with an overall sale clearance rate of 87.2% and a total of 34 lots selling to a wide range of International buyers. As well as Waller/Mulcaster, buyers of Mongolian Khan's progeny also included Waikato Bloodstock's Bryce and Ginger Tankard, who originally bought Mongolian Khan at the Karaka yearling sales in 2013 while his former trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman were also notable purchasers of the leading freshman sire's stock.

Karaka's perennial leading buyer, Te Akau Racing's David Ellis, proved to be Mongolian Khan's biggest supporter purchasing a total of four yearlings by the champion racehorse while many ofAustralasian racings biggest names also secured offspring by the young stallion includingTony McEvoy, Matthew Ellerton & Simon Zahra, Brent Stanley (2), Robert & Michael Hickmott (2), Phill Cataldo, Lisa Latta, Steven Marsh, Shaune Ritchie, Albert Bosma's Go Racing, Richard Laming, Danica Guy and Richard Jolly.

Mongolian Khan is owned in partnership with the Inner Mongolia Rider Horse Group, who raced the son of Danehill's Champion 2YO and internationally successful sire Holy Roman Emperor and who have provided exceptional support to their star performer whose results both in the breeding barn and in the salering promise such an exciting future at stud.
