Premier First Season Sire Performance

The father son duo of I Am Invincible and Brazen Beau led the sire averages at Inglis Premier this week, but there was plenty of interest in first season sires with Darley's Kermadec setting the pace with six yearlings averaging $152,667.

A Group I miler by Teofilo (IRE), Kermadec is a lovely looking horse and his progeny have been very well received for a stallion that doesn't really fit the clichéd profile of two year-old speed sire. To date he has had 40 yearlings sell at all sales at an average of $110,712 off a $22,000 fee.

His six yearlings sold at Inglis Premier achieved a $152,667 average and included a colt from Promenades that made a whopping $520,000 for Gilgai Farm when secured by Upper Bloodstock. 



That set a new benchmark for Kermadec as his most expensive yearling so far and the youngster has a strong pedigree as he's the first foal of Lonhro mare Promenades, whose grand-dam Twyla is a half-sister to blue hen Shantha's Choice, the dam of champion sire Redoute's Choice.

Coolmore's Golden Slipper winner Vancouver continued his strong results with 15 yearlings averaging $136,333. He also produced the single best result for a first season sire at this sale with his colt from Pins Group III winner Epingle making $540,000 for Gilgai Farm when bought by John Foote Bloodstock.




Across all sales so far this year, Vancouver has had 56 yearlings average $158,660 and has an impressive draft of 25 to be offered at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Cornerstone Stud's High Chaparral shuttler Free Eagle (IRE) kicked a goal with his colt from Shanghai Moon which made $250,000 for Cornerstone Stud when bought by John Foote Bloodstock. 




The colt is a half-brother to Group I SA Derby winner Kushadasi and stakes-winner Karlovasi so has plenty of pedigree to back up his obvious appeal as a type.
