Another Debut Winner for Deep Field

Tara Madgwick - Monday June 3
Newgate Farm’s Deep Field added a 17th first crop winner to his tally when Scorpius saluted on debut at Moe on Monday for a happy group of United Syndications owners.

Scorpius as a yearlingSlowly away, the Mick Price trained Scorpius settled near the rear of the field, but unwound a powerful finish to surge home and win the 1100 metre maiden by half a length in an eye-catching display.

A $140,000 Inglis Classic purchase for United Syndications from the Manx Park draft, Scorpius is the first winner for two time stakes-winner Scorpio Queen, a talented Choisir mare from the family of triple Group I winner and $2million earner Toledo.

Scorpius was bred by Spendthrift Australia who bought his mother Scorpio Queen for $300,000 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in 2016 when she was carrying him.

She produced a filly for them by Jimmy Creed (USA) the next year and has now been sent to North America.

Deep Field is now just one winner away from emulating the success of his ill-fated sire Northern Meteor, who had 18 first crop winners and was the Champion Australian First Season Sire of 2012/2013 by winners and earnings.

Deep Field has had a fee increase this spring and stands at $44,000.
