Another Brilliant Turf Stakes-Winner for American Pharoah

Tara Madgwick - Saturday August 17
American Pharoah (USA) might have played second fiddle to Coolmore's other Triple Crown hero Justify (USA)at their media day earlier this week, but on the track the first progeny of the 2015 Triple Crown winner are racing up a storm with a brilliant new turf stakes-winner at Saratoga on Friday in Another Miracle.

Another Miracle cruises home aloneAnother Miracle showed natural pace and great acceleration as he powered clear to win the $100,000 Skidmore Stakes on the grass.

Second on debut at Belmont, the Gary Contessa trained colt was a winner on dirt at Saratoga last month and took another step forward with this fast finishing win. He stalked the leader and zoomed clear to take the five and a half furlong sprint by a length and three-quarters.

"My horse broke good like always," said winning rider Manny Franco.

"Once I saw [Jose] Lezcano's horse [Montauk Daddy] wanted to go, I just let him go. I knew I had horse all the way around. I just waited for the right moment to move, and that's what I did. He's talented. He can run on both surfaces."

A $210,000 Keeneland September purchase, Another Miracle has already won $120,500 and will look towards Grade I goals later in the year.

"I don't know that I need to stretch him out because of the Breeders' Cup [G1Juvenile Turf] Sprint facing us. We'll have to win one of those 'Win And You're In' races, so probably [the $200,000 Indian Summer S. Oct. 6] Keeneland next out," said Gary Contessa.

Another Miracle has an interesting pedigree from an Australian perspective as he is the third winner for stakes-winning Medaglia D'Oro mare Retraceable, whose next dam is by Dehere. Both Medaglia D'Oro and Dehere have shuttled here and feature in the pedigrees of numerous mares.

Another Miracle is the second stakes-winner for American Pharoah joining his French Group III winner Maven, but is his first in North America.

The Triple Crown hero is back in Australia this spring at a fee of $66,000 and will have his first Southern Hemisphere bred yearlings at the 2020 Australasian sales. He is pictured below at the media day earlier this week by Katrina Partridge.
