Brazen Beau Gelding Breaks His Maiden In Style

Punters reasoned that a last start third behind the unbeaten Yao Dash in a maiden at Canterbury on August 28 looked good form for Colada in Wednesday's opener over 1500 metres at Canterbury and they were on the mark.

Backed into favouritism the son of Brazen Beau did not disappoint.


Sent straight to the front by apprentice Robbie Dolan, the Gerald Ryan-trained gelding won with ears pricked by three and a quarter lengths from More Joyous's half-brother Lewis (Fastnet Rock).

Placed twice previously Colado was making his seventh start.

A homebred for Sun Stud he was passed in short of her $120,000 reserve at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Colada (pictured as a yearling )  is the first winner for the imported Volponi mare Clearly Foxy (USA) who won the Grade III Natalma Stakes at Woodbine and was third in the Grade 1 American Oaks at Hollywood Park.

From the family of Spendthrift Farm's dual Grade 1 winner Bolt D'Oro, Clearly Foxy (USA) has a 2yo filly by Fighting Sun and a yearling colt by Territories (IRE).

She was covered by Brazen Beau again last spring but missed.
