Winning Double for Deep Field

Tara Madgwick - Thursday September 26
Newgate Farm's young gun sire Deep Field featured on Thursday with a winning double courtesy of exciting debutant Mir at Hawkesbury and progressive Aerozoom, who made it two wins from three starts when scoring at Bendigo.

Aerozoom as a yearlingTrained by Anthony Freedman, Aerozoom broke his maiden when winning first up at Seymour earlier this month and kept up the good work with another classy performance in the Benchmark 64 event over 1100 metres.

He was a short priced favourite and beat the older horses by the best part of a length.

A $100,000 Inglis Premier purchase for Anthony Freedman Racing from the Aquis Farm draft, Aerozoom is a half-brother to Group III winner Metallic Crown and stakes-winner Snitzepeg being the seventh winner from good producer Pegasus Queen.

Deep Field was expected to have the winner of the 1000 metre maiden at Hawkesbury with his talented son Spaceboy sent out favourite following some good form last season that saw him placed in races such as the $150,000 Golden Gift behind Tassort and the $200,000 Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic behind Unite and Conquer and Exhilarates.

Mir as a yearlingSpaceboy set a brisk pace in the lead, but was unable to hold out another promising son of Deep Field in Mir, who surged home to win in the colours of Alan Bell, who also raced his sire.

Trained by Team Hawkes, Mir had shown plenty of ability in recent trials and the powerhouse gelding hit the line hard to win by two lengths over Spaceboy in a slick 57.16 seconds.

A $170,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Alan Bell from the Lustre Lodge draft, Mir is a half-brother to stakes-winner The Enzo and is the second winner from Danica, a half-sister by Sebring to stakes-winner Foxy Housewife.

Deep Field is the leading Australian second season sire by winners and earnings stands at a fee of $44,000 at Newgate this spring.
