Invincible Sprinter Makes History

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday November 27

Talented Tasmanian trained sprinter I’m Wesley made it a back to back treble of wins in the $100,000 Listed Launceston Newmarket Handicap on Wednesday evening, giving his sire I Am Invincible his sixth stakes-winner of the season.

Prepared by Glenn Stevenson, seven year-old I’m Wesley was having his third run back from a spell and scored a half length win under Daniel Ganderton in the 1200 metre sprint.

I Am Invincible is the sire of I'm WesleyHe made some history with the victory as he is the first horse to win the race three years in a row.

"We've been through a bit of a rough time lately with a few things and this is a great result for us - my wife, my daughters, all the staff ... we're a small stable but everyone gives 100 per cent," Stevenson said.

"It's also a great credit to Daniel ... he's really stepped up to the mark and worked so hard. It's great to see him rewarded."

I’m Wesley has the overall record of 15 wins and 12 placings from 44 starts with prizemoney just shy of $550,000.

An $8,000 Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale purchase for his trainer from the Shadwell Farm draft, I’m Wesley is the best of three winners from Daniela, a minor winning Danehill grand-daughter of US Group I winner Some Romance.

Daniela has a yearling colt by War and has foaled this spring producing a filly by Spendthrift Farm’s young I Am Invincible stallion Overshare,. so she is a three-quarter sibling to I’m Wesley.

Daniela has also been covered again by Overshare, who is proving a popular choice this spring with his first foals greatly impressing their breeders.

I’m Wesley is one of 49 stakes-winners for I Am Invincible, who stands at Yarraman Park at a fee of $247,500 and has big representation at 2020 sales.
