A FRESH winner late last month in the first crop of the Tale of the Cat leading Australian juvenile Real Saga (won STC Todman Stakes, MRC Blue Diamond Prelude, AJC Breeders' Plate, second MRC Blue Diamond Stakes and fourth STC Golden Slipper) shows he is continuing the imposing record that the Glenlogan Park stud in the Innisplain Valley close by Beaudesert has achieved with their sires.
Currently well clear on earnings as both Australia's leading juvenile sire and
first season sire, Real Saga (pictured) appears to have a firm grip on at least the titles
of best sire of this age group for 2012-13 among those used in Queensland. His
honour board is headed by Magic Millions 2YO Classic Real Surreal and the fifth
placegetter in the event, Choose a Saga.
The Leading Queensland juvenile title would make Real Saga the third Glenlogan Park sire to claim this distinction in the past seven years. It is an achievement that opened up with Show a Heart collecting their leading first season sire title in 2005-06, booming off with 13 individual winners.
Since then four times champion Queensland sire and a prominent national sire with five one million dollar-plus earners to his credit, including interstate Group1 winners Heart of Dreams,Toorak Toff (served 97 mares at the Rosemount stud in Victoria last season) and Woorim (still racing), and Group 2 winner and Group1 placed Mimi Lebrock, Show a Heart (Star Kingdom male line) has been followed by four other Glenlogan sires who have enjoyed early, widespread success.
Along with Show a Heart (18 lots), contributing between them 160 of the 450 of the lots in the catalogue for the Queensland breeders QTIS Yearling Sale to be conducted by Magic Millions at the Gold Coast next Sunday and Monday March 17 and 18, the others in order of appearance at Glenlogan Park are Falvelon (26 QTIS yearlings), Bradbury's Luck (13), Jet Spur (26) and Real Saga (37). All like Show a Heart have been fleetfooted Australian performers.
Falvelon, a representative of the only crop of the Glenlogan used Melbourne sprinter Alannon, went to stud a year after Show a Heart, opening up his career in 2006-07 in fine style with 11 2-year-old winners. He was Queensland's leading first season sire and second to Show a Heart as the most successful in this age group. Show a Heart was clearly Australia's top two crop sire and had the rare distinction of being New Zealand's Champion Juvenile sire.
For 2007-08 Falvelon was Queensland's leading two crop sire and champion juvenile sire (10 winners) and eighth nationally. Also, Show a Heart claimed the title of Queensland's leading three crop sire and second nationally. At the same time he moved to second position behind Lion Hunter as the State's champion sire on earnings and 19th nationally.
Falvelon (11 winners) was Queensland's leading juvenile sire numerically for 2008-09, a year Show a Heart became their Sire of the Year for the first time. He took that honour again in 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12 (also State's leading juvenile sire, 11 winners). Falvelon supplied 11 2-year-old winners for each of 2010-11 and 2011-12.
Glenlogan powered ahead with the introduction of two new sires with runners in 2009-10, Jet Spur (by Flying Spur) and Bradbury's Luck (Redoute's Choice).
Jet Spur (12 winners) was Queensland's leading first season sire by winners and second on earnings to Lyndhurst stud newcomer Hidden Dragon and Bradbury's Luck (8 winners) third in each statistic. On the national first season list Hidden Dragon was fourth, Jet Spur (6th) and Bradbury's Luck (9th).
Jet Spur went on to be Queenlsland's leading juvenile sire with his second crop supplying 15 winners and $1,051,700. He was second nationally by juvenile winners and eighth by earnings.
Bradbury's Luck has not cracked the double figure juvenile score yet, but he was the Queensland leader and Australia's fourth most successful three crop sire for 2011-12. One of his first crop runners, million dollar earning Western Australian star Luckygray is highly fancied for Saturday's Newmarket at Flemington.
All told there are 160 yearlings by Glenlogan sires listed for the QTIS sale at the Gold Coast with another newcomer, Red Element, a good Melbourne sprinting brother by Red Ransom to Australian Horse of The Year Typhoon Tracy having the biggest representation, 40 lots, of any sire in the catalogue.
Red Element has had over a hundred mares each season and includes among the sale yearlings offspring of daughters of Galileo (IRE), Zabeel, Rory's Jester, Redoute's Choice, Danzig, Encosta de Lago, General Nediym, Fairy King (USA), Canny Lad, King's Best (USA), Grand Lodge (USA), Danzero, Show a Heart, Rory's Jester, Secret Savings (USA), Zoffany (USA), Sir Tristram (IRE), Octagonal, Beautiful Crown (USA), Carnegie (IRE) and Sequalo.
Most of the yearlings by the Glenlogan sires are from mares with good black type backgrounds and must be worthy of consideration by buyers at all levels.
All round the catalogue for the 450 lot catalogue for this year's Queensland breeders QTIS yearling sale mirrors the big uplift in the quality of the State's breeding. Besides the sires of the dams of the yearlings by the Glenlogan sires, they include progeny of mares by More Than Ready (USA), Lonhro, Celestial Dancer (IRE), Last Tycoon (IRE), Marscay, Pentire (GB), Snippets, Choisir, Luskin Star, Rubiton, Anabaa (USA), Flying Spur, Sadler's Wells, Fusaichi Pegasus (USA), Snippets, Scenic (IRE), Lion Hunter, Danehill (USA), Rock of Gibraltar (IRE), Jeune (GB), Royal Academy (USA), Commands, Shamardal (USA), O'Reilly, Fastnet Rock, Red Ransom (USA), Success Express (USA), Montjeu (IRE), Mossman, Centaine, At Talaq (USA), Hussonet (USA), Bel Esprit, Stravinsky (USA),Tale of the Cat (USA), Zeditave, Testa Rossa and Elusive Quality (USA).
