Aquis Farm Makes Presence Felt on Day Three at Tattersalls Broodmare Sale

Mark Smith - Thursday December 5

It would be interesting to know how many Juddmonte-breds there are in Australia; whether it be tried horse sales or broodmare sales, the progeny of the Prince Khalid bin Abdullah run operation draws buyers from the Antipodes like bees to honey.

It was no different on day three of the Tattersalls December Mare Sale.

The top lot of the Juddmonte draft was the Frankel filly Time Saver who was knocked down to agent Demi O’Byrne for 750,000 guineas.

"She is for Aquis," said O'Byrne. "She is a very good-looking filly and breeding plans have not been decided but she might well be bred in Europe."

Time Saver is a half-sister to the Group 1 winners Timepiece and Passage Of Time, herself the dam of Group II winner and sire Time Test. She is also a half-sibling to the Group II winner Father Time and to the Listed winner Continuum. The family also includes the Champion and four-time Group 1 winner Twice Over.

Second top lot of the session went the way of Blandford Bloodstock’s Richard Brown who got some recompense for missing out on the purchase of Time Saver by purchasing the next two lots through the ring including Wild Rye for 300,000 guineas. The three-year-old daughter of Bated Breath is a sister to the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris winner Zambezi Sun and also caught the attention of Jono Mills and Hugo Lascelles.

"She is for an established British-based client and the filly will stay in England,” said Brown. “It makes such sense to buy from Juddmonte, such outstanding breeders."

"There is a huge amount happening in the family, it would be no huge leap of faith to see in the next ten years the whole page taken up by the first dam.

"Last night was frustrating as trade was so hot, but am really pleased to get her."

Wild Rye’s pedigree had received a timely update subsequent to cataloguing with her half-sister Shared Account now the dam of Group 3 Prix des Reservoirs winner Pocket Square.

Damon Gabbedy’s Belmont Bloodstock Agency purchased the Kingman filly Racine for 130,000 guineas. A lightly raced daughter of the Champion 2yr old filly in France in 2008, Proportional (Beat Hollow), Racine was purchased on behalf of Cathy Haines run Burnewang North Stud.

The Juddmonte Farms consignment is normally the highlight of the third day of the Tattersalls December Mares Sale and the draft of fillies from the leading nursery did not disappoint, realising 2,809,000 guineas for the 24 lots sold.

Cornerstone Stud teamed up with McKeever Bloodstock to purchase the Dubawi filly Khabeerah out of the Shadwell Stud draft for 48,000 guineas.

Finishing third and fourth at Kempton at her only two starts, Khabeerah is out of the stakes-winning Sea The Stars mare Hadaatha who was third in the Group 1 One Thousand Guineas.

Tweenhills and Widden combined for two lots, the Fastnet Rock filly Orlaith (IRE) for 185,000 guineas and the Lope de Vega filly Savanne Sauvage (IRE) for 24,000 guineas.

Orlaith (IRE) is a Listed stakes-winner out of a half-sister to the Group 1 National Stakes winner Toormore and the Group II Champagne Stakes winner Estidhkaar while Savanne Sauvage (IRE), an unraced daughter of the French Group III winner Savanne (Rock Of Gibraltar), carries a positive test to Brazen Beau.
