Godolphin MM Contender Wins on Debut

Tara Madgwick - Saturday December 14

The powerful Godolphin team won the 2019 Magic Millions 2YO Classic with expensive Snitzel filly Exhilarates and their subsequent shopping spree at the Gold Coast may have produced a contender for 2020 in Brazen Beau colt Conceited.

Conceited was the most expensive yearling by Brazen Beau sold at the Gold Coast in 2019Godolphin purchased five yearlings from the 2019 Magic Millions Yearling Sale for $2,925,000 and among them was a Brazen Beau colt from Classy Chloe secured for $625,000.

Named Conceited, he opened his career at Flemington on Saturday showing true grit as well as talent to score a half neck win as favourite.

He travelled nicely for Damian Lane, but was monetarily headed by runner-up Jabali Ridge over the final stages before fighting back for a tenacious win.

“He had a couple of jump outs down here and when he walked into the mounting yard he’d turned into a racehorse,” said Lane, who had a task to pull up the colt following the post.

“Until today he’d never been off the bridle, so you can see why he wanted to keep going.”

Brazen BeauEarning some $68,750 for his win should ensure Conceited a place in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic if trainer James Cummings elects to send him to Queensland.

Consigned to the Gold Coast by Amarina Farm, Conceited was the most expensive yearling by Brazen Beau sold at that sale and is the first winner for former smart stakes-winning Danerich mare Classy Chloe.

Her current yearling is a filly by Pride of Dubai that will be offered at Inglis Premier 2020 by Bucklee Farm as agent as Lot 563.

Conceited looks a bright prospect for Darley’s Brazen Beau, who is the leading Australian second crop sire by stakes-winners with four to his credit this season in Pretty Brazen, Colada, Sartorial Splendor and Ideas Man.
