Iconic Australian Racing & Breeding Brands Partner with Lime Country Thoroughbreds

Media Release - Wednesday December 18

Since its inception just three years ago, Lime Country Thoroughbreds has firmly established itself in the Australian marketplace as one of the best when it comes to preparation and presentation of yearlings for major sales.

Inglis Classic Lot 340 Dundeel colt from NassakAt the 2020 Inglis Classic Sale, Lime Country Thoroughbreds will offer 22 yearlings making it one of the largest consignors outside of studs that stand stallions.

The size and quality of this draft reflects the first-rate reputation the Southern Highlands based farm has built under the passionate leadership and astute horsemanship of husband and wife team Greg and Jo Griffin.

“Being only an hour from the Inglis Riverside complex, and having enjoyed two previously strong Classic sales, we were confident to increase the draft size with yearlings from our draft having sold stock for up to $250,000 at this sale in 2019,” said Jo Griffin.

In 2019, Lime Country Thoroughbreds was represented by 43 yearlings across three key sales - Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale (Book 1), the Inglis Classic Sale and the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale - with 41 of those horses selling achieving a 95% clearance rate.

Inglis Classic Lot 43 Pride of Dubai colt from Cassandara ShadowOff the back of such strong results, Lime Country Thoroughbreds has attracted several important new partners including the iconic Kia Ora Stud and one of Victoria’s leading Thoroughbred nurseries Swettenham Stud.

“Kia Ora has previously sold at Classic under Bhima’s banner. The Fleming’s were unable to provide that service this season due to the size of their other drafts and Mike only had good reports regarding his dealings with Kia Ora for us.

“Mr Krishnan has an exceptional broodmare band and we look forward to presenting some standout yearlings for him at the upcoming Classic Sale,” said Jo.

Kia Ora’s Bloodstock Manager Andrew Perryman said he is looking forward to working closely with Lime Country Thoroughbreds who will prepare and sell seven yearlings on their behalf at the Inglis Classic Sale (Lots 91, 305, 339, 366, 410, 419 & 555)

“We see them as a highly professional outfit and look forward to them selling on our behalf,” said Andrew.

Inglis Classic Lot 561 Divine Prophet colt from Wild BrewSignificantly, Swettenham Stud has entrusted Lime Country Thoroughbreds to sell two yearlings (Lots 202 & 399) by its headline stallion Toronado (he had a winning double at Caulfield on Wednesday, read about it here) at the upcoming Inglis Classic Sale.

“With some promising stock coming through the ranks for Swettenham’s young sire Toronado, Inglis encouraged Adam Sangster to provide some quality stock to the NSW market.

“The colt and filly we are offering on their behalf are excellent, precocious examples of this stallion’s stock and we feel they are the right physical types for this particular sale,” said Jo.

Swettenham Stud Sales and Nominations Manager Sam Matthews said; “This is our first time selling through Lime Country Thoroughbreds. We have been watching them closely for a while, and, for a farm that hasn’t had huge drafts, their averages have been enormous and that speaks volumes about what Jo and Greg are doing.

“They are incredibly attentive and the quality of their yearlings that we have inspected over the years has been second to none. They do an exceptional job in terms of preparing and getting them sold,” said Sam.

In total, 808 yearlings have been catalogued for the 2020 Inglis Classic Sale in a revised three-day format that will run from Sunday, February 9 until Tuesday, February 11.

The sale goes from strength to strength each year and has produced eight Group 1 winning graduates since 2018.

“Lime Country Thoroughbred’s draft is a quality offering with significant sire power with top proven sires such as Fastnet Rock, Sebring, Dundeel, So You Think all represented alongside some of the most exciting young stallions in Australasia such as American Pharoah, Pride of Dubai, Brazen Beau, Deep Field, Toronado, Nicconi & Shalaa,” said Jo.
