Sebring Loss Highlighted

Tara Madgwick - Sunday March 15

The loss of Widden Stud’s star sire Sebring last year was highlighted on Saturday when his talented three year-old Superstorm finished a brave second in the $5million MRC All Star Mile, while his undefeated up and comer Talladega posted his first Black Type victory in the Listed WATC JS Roberts Stakes (1800m).

The Darren McAuliffe trained Talladega won his first three races and was sent out a hot favourite for his first try at stakes company.

Stepping out in distance for the first time, he relished the longer trip and raced just behind the leaders before powering clear to win by more than two lengths.

Not offered at auction, Talladega runs for a big syndicate that includes his breeders Impressive Racing that also raced his mother Impressive Jeuney, who won the Group III WA Oaks among her six wins for the McAuliffe stable.

“He’s a high class horse with a lot of ability,” said Darren McAuliffe.

“He’s a work in progress though, if you come and have a look at him he’s not furnished yet, he’s a bit like a coat hanger, but a nice horse for  the future.”

Talladega  is the best of two winners from Jeune (GB) mare Impressive Jeuney, a grand-daughter of stakes-winner Key Target.

Talladega is the 58th stakes-winner for Sebring, who died early last year with his final crop of foals born in 2019.
