Redoute's Choice Goes 1-2 in ATC Inglis Sires' Produce

Mark Smith - Saturday April 4

There will be no quiet winding down and fading away for Redoute’s Choice as the late, great son of Danehill went 1-2 in Saturday’s Group 1 ATC Inglis Sires' Produce Stakes at Randwick.

When it looked certain that Phoenix Thoroughbreds and Aquis Farms $1.6 million Redoute’s Choice colt Prague would add the Sires Produce to the trophy cabinet housing Farnan’s Golden Slipper, along came the $1.4 million purchase King’s Legacy to spoil the party.King's Legacy - images Steve Hart

Last in the early stages, Hugh Bowman had King’s Legacy in a challenging position on the turn as Prague made his move 300 metres out and set up a commanding lead.

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, King’s Legacy knuckled down to defeat Prague by half a length with Wandjina colt Mamaragan one and a quarter lengths back in third.

King’s Legacy broke his maiden at his second start bin the Group III B.J. McLachlan Stakes at Eagle Farm on December 28 before his fifth in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic and ninth in the Golden Slipper.

“It’s very pleasing obviously on so many levels,” Paul Snowden said.

“He was an expensive yearling and now he’s a Group 1 winner.

“We gave him that time after the Magic Millions and we got a birth in the Slipper where I thought he was a pass mark on what was not his preferred ground.

“The next day he was happy as Larry, bouncing off the walls. He was only going to be better at 1400 metres and hopefully, you will see him better again a mile next week (in the Champagne Stakes).”

It was a fourth win in the race in the last six years for Bowman who said he was surprised at the pace the race was run.

“I didn’t expect him to be last but he gave me so much confidence going to the barriers,” Bowman said.

“I sat on him for the first time about six weeks ago and I said to the Snowdens I think I have found a good horse here.”

The third top-priced lot at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, King’s Legacy was purchased by James Harron Bloodstock for $1.4 million out of the Segenhoe Stud draft.King's Legacy as a yearling

Bred by Segenhoe Stud, King’s Legacy is the second foal and the first to race out of the multiple stakes-placed Hussonet mare Breakfast In Bed.

Purchased by Paul Moroney Bloodstock for $220,000 at the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Breakfast In Bed was a 7-time winner.

Her pedigree received a big update when her half-sister Oohood (I Am Invincible) won the Group 1 ATC Flight Stakes and placed in the ATC Golden Slipper Slipper, Sires' Produce Stakes, MRC Caulfield Guineas and Blue Diamond Stakes.

Breakfast In Bed and Oohood are out of the Sydney winning Sunday Silence mare Bella Sunday who is a half-sister to Not A Single Doubt out of Snippets half-sister Singles Bar (Rory’s Jester).

Breakfast In Bed has a yearling filly by Redoute’s Choice who is in the Segenhoe draft at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale

After foaling a filly by I Am Invincible last spring, Breakfast In Bed was covered by Pierro.

King’s Legacy becomes the 38th Group 1 winner for the Arrowfield Stud legend Redoute’s Choice who died in March last year.
